SALUTE TO THE VIETNAM ERA VETERANS!

Today is national Vietnam Veterans' Day. We salute you for your service.
And this is not just those who were in Vietnam but whoever served during
this era. You were not given a hero's return, but , we know you truly were.
God Bless each of you!
I also like this picture, because it depicts the Vietnam War as well.

MARCH 2018 LUNCHEON
On
March 1, 2018, the Novelty Senior Citizens' met for the monthly
luncheon. It was a beautiful “spring” day with temperatures in
the 50's. The building was appropriately decorated for St. Patrick's
Day with centerpieces for the tables and wall decorations for that
holiday. Nurse Sherry Goodwin of the KCHD was there to take blood
pressures. She also gave information on the fundraiser this coming
Saturday evening for the local cancer fund. All monies from this fund
are given to county residents battling this disease. She reminded us
of vaccines available at the health department. Plus she shared
pictures of her new granddaughter, born since the last time Sherry
was here. We congratulate Sherry and Kevin on their new granddaughter.
Diana
led the pledges and Carolyn gave the blessing before the group sang
“Happy Birthday” to Dorothy (her actual birthday was the next
day). Present were Denis and Dorothy Howard, Jim and Marsha Pinson,
Judith Rhoades, Diana Cheatum, Carolyn Morgret, Sue Ahern, and Helen
Pulse.
Aftercleanup, Diana called the business meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. and
welcomed Kent and April Franke to the meeting. Marsha read the
minutes from last month's meeting. Helen moved and Carolyn seconded
that they be approved as read: this was done. Judith gave the
financial report: she did not have copies for everyone because not
all bills have come in. However she does know that the sewer bill
must be paid to the village of Novelty (paid yearly), and a couple of
items from last month that she has yet to pay. She has talked with REC and it was decided to put
that bill on a “budget” payment plan. We pay a certain amount
each month: at the end of the fiscal year we will either pay them
what more we owe, or they will reimburse us if we have paid too much.
At least that way we know what the bill is each month.
Old/Unfinished
Business:
- Kent has not yet been reimbursed for the purchase of the ceremonial wreaths for the WAA ceremony. He is to be reimbursed as the wreaths were late getting here. He has the paperwork all finished, just needs to e-mail it to WAA.
- Marsha passed around certificates of appreciation from Wreaths Across America for our sponsorship of the ceremony in December. They will be displayed in the Center.
- Kent indicated he will not be the location chairman this year for the ceremony. He has many other obligations and will help as much as possible, but does not want to be in charge. We thank Kent (and April) for all their work this past year in getting the ceremony organized.
- Wreaths from Novelty, Bee Ridge, and St. Joseph's cemeteries have not yet been picked up. Marsha has contacted the Novelty Youth Group, and 4-H clubs for help if necessary. Beth Strange is the contact person for Bee Ridge Cemetery, and Larry Clark is the contact for St. Joseph's cemetery.
New
Business:
- Sue Ahern made a motion that the Novelty Senior Center again sponsor a Wreaths Across America project as we have the past two years. Judith seconded the motion. Motion passed. Marsha will again serve as fundraising chairperson. We are actively looking for someone to be location chairman....in case anyone is interested!
- Our annual spring fundraiser will be Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Center. From 8:00-1:00 p.m. We will serve sausage, biscuits and gravy, fresh fruit, juices, and coffee/tea for a free will donation. All donations will be used at the center to manage monthly bills and other expenses that come up.Members donate items for the breakfast: it was voted on that the center pay for the sausage and biscuits. Everyone will furnish items for the Bake Sale.
- Flyers were distributed to be placed In businesses to advertise the breakfast.
Marsha
will make the cake for next month's luncheon. Coffee makers for
each Tuesday were assigned.
Here is the centerpiece that Judith had made for March--similar to the one described in the February blog. She used a #10 can and decorated it with felt and flowers. Isn't it cute?
