April 2018 luncheon and meeting

The Novelty Senior Citizens met for their monthly luncheon on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the Center. Although it was April, it sure didn't feel much like it: it's been cool and cloudy nearly all week (5” of snow on Easter Sunday), with snow in the forecast for this weekend as well. Nurse Sherry Goodwin came for the blood pressures and gave information on an exercise class to be held at the KCCC one day a week until June for balance...a good class for senior citizens!

The meal consisted of some of the leftover sausage, biscuits, gravy, and fruit salad from the breakfast fundraiser held last Saturday. The birthday cake, an angel food cake, was also from the Bake Sale that day. Marsha had brought strawberries and Reddi-whip to top the cake. No birthday celebrants were present.  Kathryn led the pledge to the flag, and Dorothy gave the invocation. Others present were Denis Howard, Judith Rhoades, Sue Ahern, Helen Pulse, and Marsha Pinson.

After the meal and cleanup, Kathryn conducted the business meeting of the group. Marsha read the minutes to last month's meeting and they were approved as read. Judith gave the treasurer's report and it was also approved as presented. A couple of people have offered their services to help with the Wreaths Across America project, which we are grateful for all help.

Business:
  1.  Kathryn will contact someone about needed repair work to the center.
  2. Marsha made a motion to allow Judith to purchase several cards (box?) to have at the center.  Alvie Parrish is still in the hospital, in rehab, and celebrates his 83 birthday April 21. Helen Cheatum will celebrate her 90 birthday on April 16, Mildred Bragg will celebrate her birthday on the 18th. .
  3. Joyce Simpson is the location coordinator for Wreaths Across America project. She is in contact with the national organization.
  4. A bit disappointed in the turnout of the breakfast Saturday. Should we change the date (it is always the day before Easter)? Cancel it altogether?  We will decide later about the breakfast.
  5. Birthdays were added for the year into Judith's notebook.
  6. Next month's cake will be made by Dorothy. Coffee makers are assigned for the month.
  7. Helen moved to adjourn. Dorothy seconded. Meeting adjourned.

SPRING FUNDRAISER

Always held on the day before Easter, this year the spring fundraiser was  March 31st.  We had a wonderful breakfast (or for some, lunch)  of sausage, biscuits and gravy, fruit salad,  choice of orange juice, apple juice, coffee, hot tea, or milk to drink.  Home made jelly was also available for the biscuit should anyone wish.  We were a bit disappointed in the number coming in to eat, but  certainly appreciated all who did.

Here are a few pictures of the day:  bake sale items, etc.

Judith made TWO of these bunny cakes to sell for the bake sale!  See what you missed?

And the very next day!!!!!

April Fools???? No, a real snow---nearly 5 inches!
Happy Easter
