October, 2018 luncheon

October 4th, 2018 found the Novelty Senior Citizens again gathering for their monthly luncheon. We were pleased to have the KCHD staff (Phyllis, Debbie, Becky, and Lori) all there to also have their mobile flu vaccine clinic that day (from noon-1:30 pm). It was a chilly day so they brought their equipment inside the center. Unfortunately no one other than those present at the luncheon came in to get their flu shot. But it was nice to have it conveniently located for those of us who DID get it!

The pledge was led by Diana, and the blessing given by Dorothy. Happy Birthday was sung to Becky (although she didn't want a cake or blow out candles!) Dorothy had made the cake. Other seniors there were Judith, Sue, Helen, Denis, and Marsha.

At 1:45: Diana began the business meeting. Marsha read the minutes to last month's meeting. Helen moved to approve them, Judith seconded. Approved as read. Judith then gave the treasurer report. Dorothy moved to approve, Sue seconded. Approved as presented.

Business:
  1. Marsha reported on the WAA project. We have 109 wreaths sold at this point. About 20 short for the Novelty cemetery. Surveyor flags will be placed at the Novelty cemetery on all veterans' graves (to make it easier to find in December) on Saturday, October 13. Marsha and Judith will be on KMEM radio “coffee break” on Monday, October 15 to talk about the Wreaths project—they had done this last year as well.  The ceremony will be Saturday, December 15, 2018 in Novelty.
  2. Soup luncheon and bake sale will be November 10—the first day of firearms deer season. Soups that will be served are chili; cheesy broccoli; potato soup deluxe; pizza soup. Relish tray, crackers. sour cream, shredded cheese. Pies will be for dessert.  Everyone will bring things for the bake sale. It will be advertised in the Edina Sentinel, on the Mark Twain website, and on Marsha's facebook page as well.
  3. No birthdays are known in November so no one is designated to bring the birthday cake next month.
  4. Coffee makers were designated for each Tuesday of this month.
  5. Next luncheon will be November 1.  We certainly invite all to join us on that first Thursday of the month to eat....we always have plenty, so you could come the first time without bringing anything!!!!!!  👌👩 👪

No automatic alt text available.

The  stocking cap was designed with the USA in mind--stars and stripes in red, white and blue.  It was hand-knitted by Jana, who lives in Canada, although she grew up here in Novelty.  We thank her so much for donating the toques.  Yes, she gave us two. One was given away at CornFest....BUT....We kept all those raffle tickets and will try to sell a few more to give away the second toque later in the fall.  So if interested, contact us at the above address and we'll sell you some raffle tickets--three chances for $1.  Pretty good buy for a hand-knitted cap!
