A NEW YEAR--2020!!!!

January 2, 2020 found the Novelty Senior Citizens enjoying the first monthly luncheon of the year.  Phyllis was there from the KCHD for blood pressure checks and gave us some new information about the Health Dept.  Diana led the pledges and Denis gave the blessing.  Jim celebrated his birthday  with all singing "Happy Birthday" with candles on the cherry cheese cake made by Diana.  She "tricked" him by using some candles that will re-light themselves!  Judith had also made him some of the apple dumplings (recipe in an older post here).  Those present were Jim and Marsha, Denis and Dorothy,  Carolyn, Judith, Diana, and Phyllis.

After cleanup by Diana, the business meeting began at 1:40.  A birthday card was signed for Sue, who is at her daughter's.   Marsha read the minutes to last month's meeting and they were accepted as corrected.  Judith gave the treasurer's report which also accepted as presented.

Old business was the culmination of the wreath project/ceremony.  World-wide, Wreaths Across America placed 2.2 million wreaths in over 2200 locations, including at the American cemeteries in Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and at Normandy, France.  Locally, 414 wreaths were placed:  all veterans in the Novelty, Bee Ridge, and Mt. Salem cemeteries received a wreath and the salute of "saying their name".  Nearly all in Locust Hill and St. Joseph cemeteries were also honored (as many as could be found),  about 20 extra in the Linville Cemetery in Edina, in addition to those that were purchased as "grave-specific", which went to nine other cemeteries in the county and surrounding area.  We will again do this project for this year, 2020, with the date of that ceremony December 19, 2020 (see prior post).

Some new business was discussed, but nothing definite on that yet.

Marsha will make the cake for the February 6th  luncheon, although we have no known birthdays at this point.  Coffee makers for the month are Marsha, Judith, Diana, Donna Faye,  anyone is welcome to join us for a cup of coffee or tea on a Tuesday morning--you just might learn something new!...or be reminded of something from long ago! We start about 9:00 a.m., but come anytime before 10:30 and you are welcome!

And big THANKS to whoever stopped Thursday afternoon and set the ceremonial wreath triangle upright after the wind had blown it down Monday night...we certainly appreciated you doing that!!!
