OCTOBER, 2023 LUNCHEON
Novelty Senior Citizens’ met Thursday October 5 for the monthly luncheon. A beautiful fall day. As it is harvest time, a few were not able to be here, but Judith, Kathryn, Diana, Barbara, and Marsha enjoyed eating together, visiting, as well as the business meeting. Health nurse could not be here today, but will plan on being here next month.
All joined in repeating the Pledge of Allegiance, then Kathryn gave the blessing. No birthdays, so no picture! 😊
At 1:10 president of the organization, Diana, brought the business meeting to order. Marsha read the minutes to last month, and asked them to be approved as presented. Judith seconded. Judith gave the treasurer’s report: her motion to approve was seconded by Barbara. Both these motions were approved.
Unfinished business:
1. Wreaths: most wreath buyers from past years have already purchased except for those from St. Joseph’s. Larry Clark is again working on getting these for us. He usually doesn’t do this until the month of October. A text from him today said he thought it went well Sunday after church—had about 20 already just from one time. Last year they had enough to cover all the veterans’ in the “new” St. Joseph’s cemetery and a few in the old one.
A note from national said the boxes the wreaths are shipped in will be heavier this year as they will put 12 wreaths in each instead of 9. Boxes should weigh about 40 pounds, so we’ll need more men to help unload! a related note: we will need to place the surveyor’s flags at the grave sites in Novelty and possibly Locust Hill on a day which is fairly warm, probably in November. Judith takes care of this. Kathryn may help do Locust Hill prior to leaving for the winter.
New business:
1. Judith made motion to have our deer hunters’ annual soup luncheon on November 11. (Same day as the Locust Hill Lord’s Acre Sale). Motion passed. We will serve 11:00-1:00 p.m. on that day. We will have chili, potato soup, and taco soup, along with several kinds of homemade pies. We will get others to help bring cheese tray and veggie tray.
2. Next luncheon/meeting will be November 2. No birthdays for month of November, so no one will make a special cake. Coffee makers for the month are October 10—Kathryn; 17—Marsha; 24—Judith; 31—Diana.
Meeting adjourned at 1:50 p.m.
