A summer's day luncheon

August 2, 2018 was the first Thursday, so it found the Novelty Senior Citizens' meeting for lunch and monthly meeting. This picture shows nearly everyone who was present.

Sherry Goodwin, KCHD came for blood pressures, etc. Kathryn led the pledge and also gave the blessing for the food. Happy Birthday was then sung to Freda and Kathryn as they both celebrate birthdays this month. The cupcake cake was furnished by Marsha.

(sorry Kathryn & Freda--I can't stand you up!)

Much visiting and “catching up” was done, with all welcoming Diana back from her recent surgery. She is still using a walker, and hopes to get released to drive next week.

After cleanup, Diana called the business meeting to order at 1:15. Marsha read the minutes for the June and July meetings. They were approved as presented. Judith gave the treasurer's report for both months as well. A couple of outstanding checks have not yet been deposited, so if you're holding one, please deposit it!

Business:
  1. Marsha gave a report on Wreaths Across America. Thirty-three wreaths have been sent in so far. She had received checks today from three businesses and an individual for 14 more wreaths. She also passed out a financial report for the WAA account. She has been given two hand-knitted “stars and stripes” stocking caps for CornFest: how to utilize them for Cornfest was discussed with final action at September meeting. A list was passed around to sign up to work at the CornFest booth.  There will be no entry in the parade.
  2. Sid Hettinger has yet to come check the door, and give opinion on the air conditioner. He has been busy working outside the county. Kathryn is taking care of this.
  3. Diana will make the cake for September. Coffee makers are Aug. 7—Marsha; 14—Donna Faye; 21—Kathryn; 28—Judith; Sep. 4—Diana. Luncheon will be September 6

Come join us any Tuesday for coffee, or the first Thursday of the month for our luncheon!!!
And visit our booth at Cornfest
         on Saturday, September 8!!

July 2018 monthly luncheon

July 5th found the Senior Citizens' at the Center for the monthly luncheon.  We welcomed Jeff & Leah Otto back, and also welcomed Delbert and Jean Hawkins. We were also glad to have Karen Lumley and Mildred Bragg join us any time.   Regulars present were Kathryn Wilkerson, Marsha Pinson, Carolyn Morgret, Judith Rhoades. As it has been really hot, we did turn on the air conditioner:  it is old and noisy, but it did work!   Kathryn led the pledge and had Jeff give the blessing for the meal.  No birthdays were celebrated this month.  The center was decorated with red, white, and blue decor celebrating the USA's independence.  Sherry Goodwin, Knox County Health Nurse came to take blood pressure readings.  This was a day of pies--as we had 5 different kinds of pie (and no cake).  It was good news to share that Diana would be coming home from the hospital today!

Karen and Leah did the clean-up...of which we were very thankful for their help.  As many left for various projects, there were really only two left for the meeting.  No business was conducted.  Judith did distribute the treasurer's report.  The last month's minutes have not yet been published in the paper.  We will use the August meeting to plan the CornFest booth, and Judith has already turned in the reservation sheet and money for that, requesting the same spot as we have had the last two years.  Marsha reported not many wreaths have been paid for yet--a couple of strategies were discussed.

Marsha had prepared a letter to businesses in the county for their help in making the WAA project a success:  it is with their help that we have been able to cover ALL veterans in the Novelty cemetery.  Judith had made copies of the letter, and Marsha brought prepared envelopes.  Judith will put the letters in and send them out (or maybe wait until Tuesday's coffee to see if anyone wants to hand deliver some.).

Marsha will make the birthday cake for the August luncheon--we do have 2-3 birthdays in August.  Judith will make coffee this Tuesday morning and then get others to volunteer for the rest of the month.
