                                   JANUARY 2024--A NEW YEAR BEGINNING

                                             FOR NOVELTY SR CITIZENS'

January 4, 2024 was the date for the monthly luncheon of the Novelty Senior Citizens’. (Diana had removed most of the Christmas decorations except for the tree.) Only Judith, Diana, and Marsha were present to eat and  conduct business: even the health nurse was absent, on this uncommonly warm day for January.  After the pledge was recited, Diana gave the blessing for the food.  Although not many there, we did have a nice meal.  The two January birthday celebrants were not present, so missed the pecan pie and strawberry cheesecake brought by Diana.

Business meeting began at 1:10 p.m. after Judith and Diana finished cleanup.  Marsha read the minutes to last meeting, Judith seconded—approved.  She also read the short report she had placed on her facebook page after the December 16th Wreaths Across America ceremony.  Judith then gave the treasurer’s report.  Marsha seconded—approved with correction from last month.

Unfinished business:

1.   A couple months ago, Diana had inquired about our insurance coverage.  Judith has not yet made contact with the Knox Co. Mutual insurance agent to get that answer—she will try to do that this coming month.

2.  The "thank you" note has not yet been published in the Edina Sentinel that Judith or Marsha has seen.  There WAS  a nice article about the ceremony, pictures with Liberty Leaders helping place wreaths at the cemetery, but no thank you--which was paid in December prior to the ceremony.  If not in this week's paper (it is late due to the holiday at the beginning of the week) Judith will check with them.

3.  Marsha gave update on the Wreaths 2024 project.  She has ready to send in a list for 99 paid wreaths, which will be 198 wreaths altogether.  And there is one more week to go in the BOGO promotion from WAA.  When/if money comes in next week (Marsha will not be at coffee on Tuesday), Judith will get the money to her before the deadline so she can get it mailed to Maine on time.

Meeting was adjourned.

December, 2023 Luncheon & Business Meeting

On Thursday, December 7, the wreaths arrived for the ceremony on Saturday, December 16.  They arrived about 10:15 a.m. so Judith, Joyce, Ronald, Cleva, John Paul, and Marsha were here to help with that.  We do thank the extras that came to help bring in the 38 boxes of wreaths.  Next week, we will take them out of the boxes, count and sort them, replace in boxes and get ready for the 16th’s ceremony and distribution.

Cleva, Judith, Marsha then stayed for the luncheon, as well as Barbara, and Diana.  Rhonda (KCHD) was also there to take the blood pressures, but could not again stay to eat with us.  After the pledge, we sang Happy Birthday to Diana who blew out the candles on the cherry pie prepared by Judith to celebrate her birthday later this month.

After eating and cleanup, Diana opened the business meeting.  Marsha read the minutes to last month’s meeting and requested they be approved as changed.  Judith seconded.  Minutes approved.  Judith gave the treasurer’s report.  Barbara seconded her motion to approve, which was done.

Business:

1.. Ronald had a couple of dollies available that were there to use in helping unload the boxes, but they were not needed as we had some good help packing them in.  The trucker had loaded Saturday previous, and left Maine on Monday morning, came to Quincy, and had unloaded some at Canton prior to coming to Novelty.

2.    Marsha has the thank you notes to purchasers of multiple wreaths are ready to go—address labels and copies made.  Judith will get envelopes and stamps so we can get these out in good time.  Also thank you notes written to Liberty Leaders 4-H (for helping place wreaths), Novelty Church for the use of building, Edina Legion post for honor guard, and Knox City post for  use of flags.  Thank you is also written to be placed in the Edina Sentinel.

3.  For Saturday, Diana will make some chili for those working to eat while there.  Barbara will bring crackers, Marsha will bring pickles and cheese.

4.  Judith and Diana decided to put out wreaths on Friday, the 15th at Mt. Salem.  Bee Ridge will also pick theirs up that day.

Marsha moved to adjourn.  Judith seconded.  Meeting adjourned.

Novelty Senior Citizens met Thursday November 2, 2023 for the monthly luncheon.  Nurse Rhonda was here to check blood pressures, but couldn’t stay to eat with us as the home health agency is quite busy right now.  Kathryn gave the blessing for the food after the pledge was recited by all.  Attending the luncheon were Barbara, Kathryn, Marsha, Judith, Edra, and Diana.

After cleanup, Diana opened the business meeting at 1:16 p.m.  Marsha read the minutes from last month.  Judith seconded her motion to approve them.  Motion carried.  Judith then gave the treasurer’s report (with the water bill not yet received).   Kathryn moved to second her motion to approve.  That motion also was approved as presented.

Business:

1.     The  thank you (window clings) we generally send out to those who purchased multiple wreaths have gone up in price (to $1.50 instead of $1.00).  After discussion, Barbara made motion  to simply send a thank you note, with no extra “gift”.    Edra seconded.  Motion passed.  Hopefully Marsha will have these ready the day of the ceremony so Lynn can get them in the mail (she did this last year for us, with us providing all the necessary materials—thank you letters, envelopes, address labels, stamps.)

2.    For the soup luncheon on November 11th, Judith has the veggie tray supplies,  and cheese tray.  Marsha will bring sweet pickles, and supply tea.  Think that is about everything needed from last month and this month.

3.    The center has received $XX in memorial gifts from the Browning family.  We do thank them for designating the center as one of the donation places to receive monetary gifts in memory of Amogene.

4.    Diana had a couple questions:  A)  Do we have liability insurance in case someone falls, etc.   Judith will check into this as the insurance is paid in August of each year.  It is through Knox County Mutual (and our agent is no longer Nena Palmer).  B).  As the wreath boxes will be heavier this year (12 wreaths in each instead of 9, and weighing about 40 pounds) perhaps we should look into getting a dolly to help get those boxes off the truck and into the center.  Someone will check to see if we could perhaps borrow one (from Patrick, or perhaps CoOp) or just buy one.  Diana will check on prices as well.

Yay!  We will have birthdays for the December carry-in.  Judith will make the cake.  Coffee makers for the month will be November 7—Judith; 14th—Marsha;  21—Diana; 28th—Judith.  Next carry in is December 7
