                            HAPPY MARCH, 2024

Thursday, March 7, 2024 found the Novelty Senior Citizens’ meeting for the luncheon on a windy, chilly day.  Rhonda (KCHD nurse) was there to take blood pressures, but could not stay to eat with us (although she did take some “Irish” food with her).   No birthday celebrants were present.  The center was decorated with Irish colors and symbols, fitting for the month.  In addition, Marsha had brought some “Irish “ stew, Irish soda bread, and an Irish Tea Cake for dessert.  Those, along with the other pot-luck food items made for a very pleasant and filling meal.  Present were Jim and Marsha, Carolyn, Judith, and Diana.  After repeating the pledge, Carolyn gave the blessing for the food.

Carolyn and Diana helped out with the cleanup.  Before the  business meeting began, Weldon Woodward dropped in for a few minutes.

At 1:20, Diana called the business meeting to order.  Marsha read the minutes to last month’s meeting.  Carolyn seconded and they were approved.  Judith gave the treasurer’s report with Carolyn seconding her motion to approve.  They were indeed approved.

Business:

1.     We have only building insurance, no liability, which would cost about $200 more each year.   Our agent said with no claims in the 40+ years we’ve been here, she thinks we’re okay.

2.    We do not yet have an answer on whether the thank you note was in the paper after the December wreaths ceremony.  Judith hasn’t been in to ask.  Carolyn said she has all the papers so will try to look and see if she can find it, although she, along with Marsha and Judith, do not recall ever seeing it.

3.    Liberty Leaders 4-H club picked up wreaths at the ST. Joseph and Novelty Cemeteries.  (Jim took the wreaths from Novelty to burn.)  Doug and Debbie picked up wreaths at Mt. Salem.  Eric DeRosear has picked up Baring's.  Wreaths are not yet picked up at Locust Hill—Judith will ask Shirley if we need to find someone to do that.    Carolyn has picked up some of the wreaths at Linville and also Hurdland.

4.    As Joyce has allergy problems with the wreaths, she will continue as location chair by doing the computer work, and Judith will do any of the work with the wreaths. (that’s what they did this year.)

Cake will be made next month by Judith.  Coffee makers will be 12—Diana; 19—Judith; 26—Marsha; April 2—Diana.

Monday, February 19, 2024

February 1, 2024 was a Thursday, so that was the day of the monthly luncheon at the Novelty Senior Citizens’ building.   Present were Judith, Elsie, Marsha, Diana, and Rhonda (the Knox Co. Health nurse).  Pledge was repeated, and Diana gave the blessing.   No birthdays  in February were celebrated by those present.  Diana and Judith had the cleanup.

At 1:05 p.m, Diana called the business meeting to order.  Marsha read the minutes to last month’s meeting, Judith seconded and they were approved.  Judith then gave the treasurer’s report which Marsha seconded:  they also were approved.

Business:

1.     Judith said the insurance office (Knox Co. Mutual) is only open on Thursday and Friday, so she hasn’t yet checked on the liability insurance (whether we are covered or not).

2.    We haven’t seen the “thank-you” in the Edina Sentinel yet from the WAA ceremony December 16.  It was paid the week prior to the event.  Judith will check on that.

3.    We have received several checks from people for the 2/1 wreath promotion which ended January 16.  Due to the winter storm about that time, and not having coffee for two weeks (and mail truck not even coming up from St. Louis) the checks were past the due date.  We will TRY to honor their requests of extra wreaths, even though we will have their actual ones.

4.    Coffee makers for the month are February 13—Diana, 20th—Marsha—27—Judith; March 5—Diana.  Marsha will make a birthday cake for March.

                                   JANUARY 2024--A NEW YEAR BEGINNING

                                             FOR NOVELTY SR CITIZENS'

January 4, 2024 was the date for the monthly luncheon of the Novelty Senior Citizens’. (Diana had removed most of the Christmas decorations except for the tree.) Only Judith, Diana, and Marsha were present to eat and  conduct business: even the health nurse was absent, on this uncommonly warm day for January.  After the pledge was recited, Diana gave the blessing for the food.  Although not many there, we did have a nice meal.  The two January birthday celebrants were not present, so missed the pecan pie and strawberry cheesecake brought by Diana.

Business meeting began at 1:10 p.m. after Judith and Diana finished cleanup.  Marsha read the minutes to last meeting, Judith seconded—approved.  She also read the short report she had placed on her facebook page after the December 16th Wreaths Across America ceremony.  Judith then gave the treasurer’s report.  Marsha seconded—approved with correction from last month.

Unfinished business:

1.   A couple months ago, Diana had inquired about our insurance coverage.  Judith has not yet made contact with the Knox Co. Mutual insurance agent to get that answer—she will try to do that this coming month.

2.  The "thank you" note has not yet been published in the Edina Sentinel that Judith or Marsha has seen.  There WAS  a nice article about the ceremony, pictures with Liberty Leaders helping place wreaths at the cemetery, but no thank you--which was paid in December prior to the ceremony.  If not in this week's paper (it is late due to the holiday at the beginning of the week) Judith will check with them.

3.  Marsha gave update on the Wreaths 2024 project.  She has ready to send in a list for 99 paid wreaths, which will be 198 wreaths altogether.  And there is one more week to go in the BOGO promotion from WAA.  When/if money comes in next week (Marsha will not be at coffee on Tuesday), Judith will get the money to her before the deadline so she can get it mailed to Maine on time.

Meeting was adjourned.
