 OCTOBER 2020 MONTHLY LUNCHEON

The Novelty Senior Citizens’ met Thursday, October 1 to celebrate the beginning of the month with their carry-in luncheon.  Phyllis Whitlatch of the KCHD was there to take blood pressures.  She also gave us the tentative time of the flu clinic (drive-through), depending on the availability/receipt of the serum.

No birthday celebrants were present, but we did think of Jeff Otto as he celebrates this month.  The Pledge was repeated by everyone, and Denis gave the blessing for the food.  Judith Rhoades, Denis and Dorothy Howard, Diana Cheatum (and “Punkin”), Kathryn Wilkerson, Carolyn Morgret, Jim and Marsha Pinson were there to enjoy the meal prepared by everyone:  a couple of mac & cheese, and several desserts along the chocolate variety, as well as a no bake pumpkin pie were among dishes prepared.

At 1:30, Diana called the business meeting to order.  The minutes from last month were read and approved, and had also been published in the Sentinel.  The treasurer presented the financial statement and it also was approved.

Marsha gave a report on the WAA project.  148 wreaths have been purchased, and 78 additional ones were purchased when the promotion was BOGO.  There are  nine   additional wreaths that have not yet been sent in.   Only this month to purchase one, so if you haven’t already done so…………….  Again, the ceremony will be Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Novelty Christian Church, 11:00 a.m.  Joyce Simpson is in charge of organizing that ceremony.

New business included the motion to again have our deer hunter opening day soup luncheon.  Judith made motion that yes, we have it again, along with a bake sale.  Marsha seconded, passed.  Although final plans will be made next month, we will have 4 soups:  chili, potato, pizza, and ham and beans.  Dessert will also be furnished for a free will donation.  This event will be Saturday, November 14, with serving from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.  Bake sale items will also be there for you to indulge your sweet tooth!

Judith made motion to adjourn, Dorothy seconded.  November 5 birthday cake maker will be Diana, and weekly coffee makers were assigned

MONTHLY LUNCHEON AT NSC

The Novelty Senior Citizens met Thursday, September 3, 2020, for the monthly luncheon.  Present were Jim and Marsha Pinson, Denis and Dorothy Howard, Kathryn Wilkerson, Terri Wilkerson, Judith Rhoades, and Carolyn Morgret.  Shirley Ives of the Knox County Health Department was present to take blood pressures, etc. and also had some masks, provided by the health department to share with us.

Judith had made a cake roll for the birthdays, but no one present had/will celebrate this month.  Denis gave the blessing for the food after the pledge was recited.

Terri and Judith did clean-up after the meal, then vice-president Kathryn brought the business meeting to order.  Minutes to the last month's meeting were read by Marsha and approved.  Judith gave the treasurer's report.  We had had a $5 credit on our electric bill, which was given as a 'door prize' at the annual REC meeting.  Judith also had a correction to last month's treasurer's report, which was noted.  Marsha had a bill for the thank you window clings to be given to purchasers of several wreaths.

The Knox County CornFest has been completely canceled:   So far donations are short for the wreaths project.

The WAA ceremony will be December 19, 2020 at the Novelty Christian Church, with wreaths placed at the Novelty cemetery afterward.  Wreaths purchased for specific graves/cemeteries may be picked up at the Novelty Senior Center immediately after the ceremony, about 11:30 a.m. that day. Wreaths may also still be purchased from the center until October 31.

Marsha will make the birthday cake for the next luncheon on October 1.  Coffee makers for each Tuesday of the month will be Marsha, Diana, Judith, and Kathryn.

Meeting adjourned.

August 6 found the Novelty Senior Citizens meeting again for their monthly luncheon.  Present were Dorothy & Denis Howard, Freda Bradley; Judith Rhoades, Diana Cheatum, and Marsha Pinson. Health department could not make it this month due to increase in COVID-19 cases in the county.

After the pledge of allegiance was recited in unison, Denis gave the prayer.  Happy Birthday was sung to Freda.  The cake, a banana split cake, was made by Carolyn Morgret who had dropped it off earlier, but had to leave.
