February 4, 2021 found the Novelty Senior Citizens’ open for the monthly luncheon.  Valentine decorations were in the building.  Pledge led by Diana, with Dorothy giving the blessing for the food.  Others present were David, Marsha, and Judith.  The weather was not conducive to being out, so we ate and basically left as the snow was coming down quite heavily at times.

After the meal, the only business conducted was for the birthday cake-maker for March (Marsha), and coffee makers for each upcoming Tuesday.  Because the weather is supposed to continue to be in the single digits or lower the next week, it was decided to cancel this coming Tuesday’s coffee (date would be February 9).  Feb 16, Marsha will make the coffee, Feb 23—Diana; and Mar 2 Judith.

Everyone left fairly quickly and made it home okay.

PS:  a recap of December Wreaths project—we received 360 wreaths to be placed.  We thank Joyce and family, Jim, and Lynn and Lois, and others for helping to place the wreaths.  Also Echo was here to take photos for the paper even though no ceremony.

Hopefully in 2021.  That theme will be “Live Up to Their Legacy” and ceremony and placement of wreaths will be December 18, 2021.

Monday, January 18, 2021

With COVID-19 and winter weather, the Novelty Senior Center has been closed most of the month of January.  The last of the wreaths will (finally) be picked up January 19.

We took advantage of Wreaths Across America's BOGO promotion and sold  84 wreaths for the 2021 ceremony--that's a good start for January!!!!!!!

 Just so you know

Yes the ceremony will be December 18.  And the theme of this year will be "Live Up to their Legacy".

 December 2020 luncheon

The Novelty Sr. Citizens’ met Thursday December 3, 2020 for the monthly luncheon.  Christmas decorations were already up, complete with tree.  Thanks to those Tuesday coffee ladies.    Health department will not be attending until this pandemic subsides in the county.  They are truly under-appreciated for all their work during this time, trying to keep our county citizens healthy.  Thank you,  Health Dept!

Diana led the group in the pledge of allegiance.  Denis gave the blessing for the food.  A birthday pie (cherry), complete with some candles, was there to help Diana celebrate her December birthday.  Those singing “Happy  Birthday” to her were Judith Rhoades, Kathryn Wilkerson, Barbara Poor, Dorothy & Denis Howard, Jim & Marsha Pinson.

After cleanup by Kathryn, Judith, Barbara, and Diana, the business meeting was called to order by president Diana.  Marsha read the minutes to last month’s meeting.  She moved they be approved as read, Judith seconded.  Motion passed.  Judith gave the treasurer’s report (which included the donations from the soup luncheon and bake sale).  She asked to approve the report, seconded by Kathryn.  Motion passed.

Unfinished business included the report on the WAA wreath project.  Website shows we have 347 sponsored wreaths:  that’s good considering the year!  However, due to the health issues we are having,  it has been decided to cancel the ceremony for December 19th.  We are sad to say that we will not be able to recognize  our veterans in this way.  We WILL, however, plan to lay the wreaths at the Novelty cemetery at 11:00 a.m. that day, and ask for all who can, to please come help do this.  We will also be having a “drive-through” pick-up for those who have purchased wreaths for a different cemetery.  Those sponsors will need come to the Novelty Sr. Center between 10:00 a.m.  and 1:00 p.m.   They may stay in their vehicle (honk if needed) and someone will come to you.  That person will ask your name and how many wreaths you purchased.  They will then come inside to get the wreath and bring it out to you.  You will not have to exit your vehicle at all, and will keep to a minimum the number of people in our building.   An ad will be placed in the Edina Sentinel for two weeks prior to the ceremony.

Other unfinished business—Diana had made a monetary donation in memory of Jean Ray, as Jean was a regular coffee drinker on Tuesday mornings before moving into the nursing home.  Diana was reimbursed from the senior citizen’s account  she donated.

New business was an announcement that this coming Tuesday, December 8, will be our annual Christmas snacks and treats day at coffee.  We will be joined by the Green Acres FCE.

Our next luncheon will be January 5, 2021.  Diana will make the birthday cake.  Tuesday coffee makers for the month will be Diana, Marsha, Judith, Kathryn, and Judith again the first Tuesday of January.

We wish all a very blessed Christmas season.
