Novelty Senior Citizens' met for the September luncheon meeting on Thursday, Sept 7 at the Senior Center in the heart of Novelty.  Health nurse Rhonda was there to take blood pressures and Health administrator Lori Moots--Clair came with her.  They did not, however, stay to eat with us.  Kathryn, Barbara, Diana, and Judith enjoyed a delicious meal after reciting the pledge of allegiance and Kathryn giving the prayer.

Diana called the meeting to order at 1:10 p.m.  Diana read the minutes as Marsha was absent.  Diana moved to accpt the minutes, Judith second.  Judith gave the treasurer's report and moved to accpt that report.  Barbara second.  Both reports were accepted as presented.

No old or new business.  Marsha had left a report on the number of wreaths we have so far, and additional ones will be added after this weekend's CornFest.  Marsha and Judith will man the booth most of the day with others coming as time permits.

Coffee makers for September are 12--Marsha; 19--Kathryn; 26--Judith; Oct 3--Diana.  Next meeting is October 5 and no birthdays are on the calendar for that month.

Motion to adjourn at 1:50 p.m

Notes from the CornFest.

Judith gets to the courtyard about 8:00 a.m. on Saturday so she can get the table, etc. set up.  (The tent was put up Friday evening and is donated for our use by Larry & Cleva Clark.  Marsha gets there prior to the parade at some point.  Diana spent most of the morning at the booth Saturday (in addition to Judith and Marsha).  We were in about the same spot as we have been each year--in the middle of the courtyard.  Marsha and Judith were there the rest of the time, with Kathryn coming during the noon hour.  We enjoyed visiting with many people as they walked past, but we had only six wreaths purchased during the day.

                 AUGUST LUNCHEON, 2023

August 3, 2023 found the Novelty Senior Citizens meeting at the Center for the monthly luncheon.  Kathryn, Judith, Diana, and Marsha were in attendance as was Rhonda, the KCHD nurse who took blood pressures and oxygen readings.     We got to a bit of a late start—reciting the Pledge of Allegiance then Kathryn gave the blessing.  Happy Birthday was sung to Kathryn as her birthday is the end of the month, and she blew out a candle on the birthday coconut pie brought by Diana.  Other desserts were a lemon lush dessert and a german chocolate “dump” type cake—MMMM!

At 1:30 p.m. Diana called the business meeting to order.  Minutes from last month were read by Marsha, 2nd by Judith.  Judith then gave the treasurer’s report which was 2nd by Kathryn.  Both of these motions were approved.

Business:

1.     Cornfest is Sept 9th.   Cornfest “vendors” fee was sent in, and a request to be in the same spot as always:  that is generally approved.    Judith and Marsha will work most of the day, with others coming in as their schedules allow.

2.    The letter to businesses and friends that purchased last year are ready to go out…Judith will get this done soon.  Marsha made copies of the letter and also address labels for those.  (In the past few years Judith had been copying the letter, but her copy machine is not working.)

3.    We will place an ad in the paper to alert some that the price has increased to $17 per wreath and also as a reminder  to get the wreath ordered.

Coffee makers for this next month are:  August 8—Diana; 15—Judith;                22—Marsha; 29—Kathryn; Sep 5—Diana.  Next luncheon is Sept 7th with no birthdays on the calendar so no one was selected to bring the cake.

As we departed, several went home via different routes than usual as Highway 156 was being worked on, getting a new surface.
