On Monday, August 15, 2016, Knox County Presiding Commissioner Evan Glasgow signed a
proclamation to honor, recognize and commend the Novelty Senior Citizens’, Inc. for their
patriotic tribute to America’s veterans. The Senior Citizens will sponsor a wreath-laying ceremony to honor all local veterans on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at the Novelty Cemetery on the east
side of Novelty.
The proclamation also requests the community’s help in accomplishing the goal of honoring all the
veterans’ graves, and in recognizing that the beauty of the red-bowed wreaths is a sign that our community remembers our veterans.
In conjunction with the national organization, Wreaths Across America, whose motto is “Remember
Honor Teach” the Novelty group has already sold sponsorships for over 100 wreaths to be laid
that day in December.
The Novelty Senior Citizens will participate in Corn Festival activities with a booth to allow anyone to sponsor a wreath to be placed on a veteran’s grave here in Knox County. If the veteran is
not buried at Novelty or Locust Hill (their two registered cemeteries), then the sponsor is asked to pick up the wreath after the ceremony and take it to their veteran’s gravesite themselves.
There are over 100 local veterans buried in just the Novelty and Locust Hill cemeteries.
Wreaths have already been sponsored to be placed in several other county cemeteries, including Mt. Salem, IOOF in Hurdland, Bee Ridge, Newark, St. Joseph’s Cemetery and Linville Cemetery in
Edina.
Everyone is welcome to come to the ceremony at the Novelty Cemetery on Saturday, December 17 at 11:00 a.m. Please join us in honoring our veterans.

KCES receives donation from schoola due to senior citizens' efforts
Ladies from the Senior Center have been collecting gently-used clothing (women's and children's) as well as shoes, belts, purses, etc and sending to the online used clothing 'store' of www.schoola.com
By donating these items, the site then donates money back to our school of choice, Knox County R-I Elementary in Edina, Missouri.
Recently, principal Frances Jones received a check for $54.81 from items that we donated and schoola had sold.
The money will be used at Knox County for some Christmas art projects that all the children do each year.
We are very pleased to be able to help our local school in this way. If you would like to donate some items (schoola only accepts items that cost more than $15 originally, and are for women and children) feel free to leave at the Center any Tuesday morning, or contact a Novelty senior center officer.

How important are goals?
- Committed to achievement.
- Gives focus to energy, the mind and emotions.
- Motivation.
- To achieve positive change.
- Satisfaction
- Allows measure of progress.
- Overcome procrastination.
The list can go on and on...
July was a goal achieving month for the Center.
We set and met our goal of 40 wreaths for Wreaths Across America.
Yeah!!!
We still have a minimum TOTAL GOAL to reach by November 1, 2016.
This past weekend we acquired 18 wreaths from a garage sale in
Kansas City. All proceeds were earmarked, along with
Fill the Combat Boot, for WAA.
Good location and a great response from the community.
When December 31, 2016, comes and goes, please remember it is a
NEW YEAR with NEW GOALS. Just because the year ends the
Wreaths Across America sponsorship does not.
Look to the future and set goals.
