December
7 found the Novelty Senior Citizens meeting for the monthly luncheon
at the Senior Center. The center had been festively decorated for
the holidays complete with a tree.
Shortly
after noon, Diana led the pledge to the US flag after which Carolyn
gave the invocation.
Happy Birthday was sung to Carolyn and Diana
who both celebrate their birthdays this month. Marsha had made a
lemon pie instead of a cake per their request last month. Those
present were Jim and Marsha Pinson, Dorothy and Denis Howard, Freda
Bradley, Judith Rhoades, Carolyn Morgret, Diana Cheatum, and Sue
Ahern. Sherry Goodwin of the KCHD was there to take BP readings,
and also gave information on vaccines available/needed for “seniors”.
She suggested keeping up with them, and having a prescription from
the doctor so they could administer them.
All
helped with the cleanup after the meal, with Freda doing the dishes.
At
1:40, Diana called the business meeting to order. The secretary
read the minutes from last month's meeting. They were approved as
read. The treasurer then gave her report; there is $10 more to be
added to the amount that was made at the soup luncheon in November.
That report was also approved as presented.
Unfinished
Business/Old business:
WAA
project: We have 254 wreaths purchased which exceeds last year's
amount. The ceremony will be Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the
Novelty Christian Church. All veterans' in two cemeteries will be
covered with wreaths: Novelty Cemetery and Bee Ridge Cemetery.
Surveyor flags have been placed on the gravesites of veterans in the
Novelty cemetery so the graves are easier to find the day of the
ceremony.
The
ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. We certainly invite all to come
join us in remembering our veterans. Wreaths for other cemeteries
may be picked up at the Novelty Legion Hall (103 N. 3rd
street) after the ceremony. Please make sure you have made
arrangements for them to be picked up, if unable to come get the
wreath(s) yourself.
New
business:
No
new business except for cake maker for January luncheon and coffee
makers for each week. Carolyn will make the cake, and coffee makers
are Carolyn, Diana, Marsha, and Judith. Next Tuesday, December
12th, the Green Acres FCE will join the coffee ladies for
Christmas treats as well as coffee and visiting. It will be up to
the coffee ladies if we meet on Tuesday, December 26th,
and January 2nd.
Meeting
adjourned at 2:15 p.m.
Those enjoying the meal:
Sue, Freda, Jim.
Jim, Denis, Dorothy, Carolyn, Judith.
