FEBRUARY MONTHLY LUNCHEON

The Novelty Senior Citizens held their monthly luncheon Thursday February 1, 2018 at the Center. Because the January luncheon was canceled due to weather, it seemed quite a while since we had been together. The center was decorated with hearts, valentines, and red/white to portray Valentines' Day. Judith had made a “top hat” from a #10 can, and felt and had a flower arrangement in it as the food table centerpiece. Other red centerpieces were on the rest of the tables.

Diana led the pledge to the flag, then Karen gave the invocation. One birthday celebrant was there: although Sue's birthday was in January, it was celebrated now.  Sue, the birthday girl!!!!
Diana had made a heart-shaped cake to serve as the birthday cake.

We also had several pies to enjoy, along with meats, vegetables, and salads. Those present were Denis & Dorothy Howard, Sue Ahern, Helen Pulse, Diana Cheatum, Judith Rhoades, Marsha Pinson, Mildred Bragg, and Karen Lumley. Nurse Sherry Goodwin of the KCHD was also there to take blood pressures and keep updated on various citizens' health issues. The KCHD still has flu vaccines to give if havent gotten it yet, and she reminded everyone to WASH their hands to prevent the spreading of germs.

After cleanup, Diana called the business meeting to order at 1:15. Marsha read the minutes to the December meeting which were approved as read. Judith gave the treasurer's report for two months. This most recent bill seemed high since we had only had the heat turned up 3 days out of the month: she will investigate this. Judith had also prepared a yearly financial report for 2017.

Business items discussed:
  1. A wrap up of the WAA project was given by Marsha. It was deemed a success even though the wreaths came in a week late and adjustments had to be made to get them on the gravesites. But thankfully we live in a community of caring people and all was good. Thank you notes have been sent to those sponsoring at least 4 wreaths, and a thank you will be in the paper shortly. Kent will take care of the thank you notes to those participating in the ceremony. It was decided to make a donation to the Novelty Legion and the Christian Church for allowing us to use their buildings for the ceremony/wreath storage. The decision on whether to sponsor this project again was tabled until next month when there should be more people in attendance.
  2. Our yearly breakfast fundraiser will be, as always, the Saturday before Easter. This year that will be March 31. We serve sausage, biscuits and gravy with drink for a free- will donation which helps pay our expenses at the center. We will also have a bake sale at that time. Decision to who will donate various items will be made at next month's meeting on March 1.
  3. Only other business was who will make the March birthday cake—Judith volunteered. Coffee makers for each week also volunteered.
Helen made the motion to adjourn. Afterward, Diana ran the sweeper to do some cleaning.
